Creating or minting an NFT is how your digital art becomes a part of the Polygon blockchain–a public ledger that is unchangeable and tamper-proof. Similar to how metal coins are minted and added into circulation, NFTs are also tokens that get “minted” once they are created. Your digital artwork is represented as an NFT, so it can then be purchased and traded in the market and digitally tracked as it is resold or collected again in the future.
How do I mint an NFT?
Once you’re a creator on Funrise and have a wallet with Polygon in it, then you can start minting NFTs.
The NFTs you mint on Funrise will be tied directly to your wallet.
How do I create an NFT, and what are the technical specifications?
You can start the process of minting an NFT by clicking 'Create' in the top right corner or by clicking the 'Create NFT' button in your profile.
After you've uploaded an artwork, your files will automatically be sent to IPFS (InterPlanetary File System). What does this mean?
When you upload your art, the original version is mapped to the token that lives on the blockchain and cannot be altered. The file itself is then hosted on IPFS to ensure that it will live on forever as well.
Add a title and description: Be sure to include background information, exhibition history, and any other interesting details here. Collectors want to learn as much about your creative practice as possible. Confirm the details of your work before moving on to sign your NFT. Once you mint your NFT, you won’t be able to make any changes.
Why can’t I change my NFT after I mint it?
Once an NFT has been minted, it exists on the Polygon blockchain forever. All transactions recorded on the blockchain are irreversible and tamper-proof; this makes the Polygon blockchain more secure and difficult to manipulate. If you want to update your NFT, you can burn the token, permanently destroying it.
Mint your NFT: Confirm that the artwork file, title, description are entirely accurate.
Set up the price and tokens quantity; your file is "on-sale” by default.
Once you're ready, click the "Create" button.
Here you can set up:
Start price - the amount with which you want to open an auction. The first bid cannot be lower than the starting price.
Reserve price - the minimum amount of USDC you’d be willing to accept for an NFT.
Quantity - you can sell only one copy. Items with semi-fungible tokens (multiple copies) cannot participate in an auction at Funrise.
Duration - for the auction to be active.
Please note that users cannot change the reserve price once an auction starts.
Gas: We are gas-free, so forget about this type of fee when using Funrise.
Wait for your NFT to be minted: After you’ve signed your gas-free NFT, the minting process begins. While you’re waiting, our smart contract runs code to deploy your artwork to the Polygon blockchain.
Avoid double-minting: As you wait for your transaction to complete, we highly advise against attempting to mint the same NFT again or clicking the "Mint NFT" button multiple times. Be patient as your NFT is being minted. Polygon transactions are processed in the order they are received, and your wallet will get backed up with transactions that are waiting to be confirmed if you submit multiple transactions.
Minting complete: Once the transaction has been confirmed, you will now be able to see your minted NFT on your Profile page.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully minted your NFT with Funrise!
Check its status in the transaction history section.
